About summer jobs for high school students
Summer is the best time for high school students to land a first job. Camps, pools, parks, ice cream shops, golf courses and resorts all need extra hands from June through August, and many of them hire teens specifically.
Seasonly only shows jobs here when the employer said the role is great for high schoolers, or when the stated minimum age is 14 or 16. That means you can apply knowing you meet the age bar.
What the work involves
- Junior counselor or counselor-in-training at day camps
- Lifeguarding and pool staff (usually 15–16+)
- Front desk, concessions and guest services
- Grounds, landscaping and golf course help
- Retail and food service in seasonal towns
Common requirements
- Meet the employer’s stated minimum age
- A work permit or working papers if your state requires one for under-18s
- Parent or guardian consent for some roles
- Lifeguard or CPR certification for aquatics roles

Tips before you apply
Check the minimum age
Each listing shows the employer’s stated minimum age. Many camps and pools hire at 15 or 16; some roles start at 14.
You may need a work permit
Some states require working papers for workers under 18. Ask your school counselor how to get one before your start date.
No experience? That’s normal
List babysitting, sports, clubs, volunteering and school projects. Employers hiring teens expect a short first application.
